The past three days have really been something for the Dos Pueblos girls volleyball team. After bringing down No. 1 Santa Barbara on Thursday, the Chargers headed south to the Torrey Pines Tournament where they beat quality teams to reach Saturday’s semifinal where they faced the country’s top-ranked team in La Costa Canyon.
The emotional rollercoaster finally caught up with the Chargers, as they were swept 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 and finished the tourney in equal-third place.
“We were tired I think. We didn’t perform as cleanly as we had all weekend,” said Dwayne Hauschild, who mentioned that the match was actually a lot closer than the score indicates. “We did a lot this Thursday, Friday and Saturday to put ourselves in a strong position for CIF and the Channel League.”
First up for DP was Notre Dame Academy, whom the Chargers downed 25-18, 25-22, 25-16. Then it was a defeat of Francis Parker followed by a confidence-boosting 25-19, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23 victory over division-rival Marymount.
Coach Dwayne Hauschild said that Sally Yingst, Carly Wopat and Hannah Powers all had outstanding performances for the Chargers.
“To have a chance to finish in the top four of this tournament is big for us,” he said.
