Dos Pueblos teammates Nicole Bullemer and Vanesa Villa stood above everyone else at the Channel League individual championships on Tuesday after the first day of play ended with the pair scoring 80s at par-72 Soule Park in Ojai.
Chargers Emily Fox and Anna Samson are in third and fourth place with an 82 and an 85, respectively. Sami Hill’s 93 put her in eighth, giving the Channel League champs five golfers in the top 10.
“It was a day of survival,” said Chargers coach Rob Schiff, who said the 95-degree heat was draining on the girls who don’t play 18 holes during the regular season. “Near the end they kinda struggled with the heat.”
League runner-up Santa Barbara brought two golfers, Olivia Fanaro and Haley True. Both finished in the top 10, with Fanaro coming in the sixth spot. Her 90 is 10 shots off the lead. True’s 94 was ninth-best.
San Marcos senior Brianna Wiley scored a 97 and freshman Alexandria Pertiako recorded a 102.
The Channel League’s top-14 tee off again on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., with the top six advancing to divisional play next week.
