Santa Barbara High lost its first tennis match of the season on Wednesday, with Campbell Hall winning by the smallest margin possible.
The Vikings — last year’s CIF Division II champs and this year’s fourth-ranked team in Division I — edged the Dons on games 69-68 after the two sides battled to a 9-9 tie in sets.
“It was a big-time match, and they are a seriously great team with two of the best singles players in southern California,” said Santa Barbara coach Steve Geremia.
The Dons (10-1, 4-0 Channel League) were missing three key players due to injury — No. 1 singles player Rachel Decker-Sadowski, Stephanie Thronton and Kinzie McKeown. Thornton dislocated her shoulder Tuesday against Buena.
The doubles team of April Ludwick and Zoe Miller went 3-0 in their sets, as did Hannah Grokenberger-Haley Hranicky-Gallitzer. Sisters Ariana and Thalia Hudson went 1-0 in doubles.
