Brendan Kerwin-McElroy accounted for almost half of Santa Barbara boys water polo’s scoring in a 7-4 victory over Ventura on Tuesday, and added 2 assists to lead the Dons in their Channel League opener.
Division I’s No. 3-ranked team took a 4-1 lead into halftime and held the Cougars to a single score in the final quarter to hold on.
Kerwin McElroy had three goals and Ian Gamble (2), Chris Dall (1) and Davis (1) rounded out the rest of the scoring. Dall added two assists. Goaltender Hunter Ploch recorded five saves.
The Dons are now 12-4 overall.
