Grace Conner had a standout performance with 13 kills and only two errors Tuesday as the San Marcos girls volleyball team took a significant step in the hunt for third place in the Channel League, beating Ventura 19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18.
San Marcos is now alone in third at 2-2 in league play, while Buena is at 1-3 and Ventura 0-4. DP is 4-0 and Santa Barbara is 3-1.
This was a good one for us,” said coach Roger Kuntz. “Against teams other than DP, Santa Barbara, and the top of the Orange County chain, we can be very competitive if our passing’s on.”
Emma Campbell’s 30 digs merited praise from Ventura’s coaches, according to Kuntz, who also said that Anna Gerngross had a great all-around match on the right side. Kristen Kuntz dished out 32 assists on the night.
The Royals, 8-5 overall, host Huntington Beach at 3 p.m. Saturday.
