Entering hostile territory at Los Alamitos on Saturday, the Dos Pueblos girls volleyball weathered a full-frontal assault from both the Griffins and their fans to fight back for a 14-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 16-14 come-from-behind gut-check against Division I-AA’s third-ranked team.
“We had the comeback victory of the year today,” said DP coach Dwyane Hauschild. “It’s one of those matches that you’re very happy to win.”
Already dealing with a raucous crowd that was filled with “plenty of trash-talking boys with nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon,” the Chargers lost setter Paige Crane to a wrist injury in the fourth game.
“That was a bit of a demoralizer there in game four,” said Hauschild. “But Sammie (Brown) took on the leadership role and nobody missed a beat.”
Carly Wopat and Caitlin Racich led offensively, recording 19 and 12 kills, respectively.
The Chargers, ranked No. 1 in Division 1-A, , run their record to 18-3 on the season.
