Emily Fox’s even-par 35 was the low score for the Dos Pueblos girls tennis team on Tuesday at Glen Annie, and her teammates followed suit in keeping their scores down to lead DP to a season-low 194 and a Channel League victory over Santa Barbara.
It was a battle of league unbeatens as Santa Barbara and DP both had records of 3-0 in league play going into the match.
Dos Pueblos, now 9-1 overall, was led by the medalist but also had low scores from Nicole Bullemer (37), Sami Hill (40), Anna Samson (40) and Vanesa Villa (42). For Fox and Hill, Tuesday’s scores were their lowest of the season. In Hill’s case, it was a career low.
The Chargers have scored 194 three times this season, and coach Rob Schiff likes the progress his team has been making ever since a season-opening loss to Righetti.
“We’re not super experienced, but everybody’s doing their part,” said Schiff. “All of our kids have been getting better all year.”
Santa Barbara also has a young team with freshman Olivia Fanaro consistently bringing in their lowest scores. Fanaro’s 41 was best again for the Dons. Haley True, who played in the first group with Fanaro, Fox and Bullemer, was the Dons’ second lowest at 48. Thia Laurain matched True’s score of 48 and Sarah Kirkwood was right behind at 49.
