Cards stay tough against La Reina

Sometimes the scoreboard doesn’t tell the story.

“Ignore the score. We played extremely well,” said Bishop Diego coach Joe Reiken.

Diana Sleep and Nicole Tetherow had four kills apieceand Melissa Georgi added three more as the Cardinals (2-5) fell to visiting La Reina 25-7, 26-14, 26-24 Thursday.

It was a tough opponent of a Cardinal squad the starts four freshmen, including Tetherow and Sleep. The win bumps the Regents’ record to 18-2 on the year, including wins over schools from the Channel and Marmonte Leagues.

“The fact that we can run with them like that is huge for us,” said Reiken.

Bishop Diego plays at rival Carpinteria on Tuesday.
