It was 35-0 at halftime, and it didn’t get much better as the SBCC football team took a beating at College of the Canyons on Saturday, 56-6. The Cougars, who are ranked third in California, had 576 total yards with 314 on the ground, while SBCC had 252 total and only 52 rushing. The Vaqueros punted after their first drive fizzled and allowed a 67-yard touchdown pass to Hayo Carpenter on the very next play. Carpenter finished with six catches for 164 yards and a trio of touchdowns.
Fred Winborn also had a huge day for the Cougars, taking 15 carries for 223 yards and two rushing touchdowns while also throwing for a score and catching another.
The Vaqueros (0-2) avoided the shutout thanks to Austin Civita’s 8-yard pass to Robin Lawson. It capped a 12-play, 63-yard drive by the visitors. Civita is a transfer from College of the Canyons and shared snaps with Dos Pueblos alumnus Conner Rehage.
SBCC plays at Ventura at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
