It was a big weekend for the Santa Barbara High girls spikers, as the Dons finished second in the Archbishop Mitty Tournament, eventually losing to the hosts in the title match, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20.
Earlier in the day, the Dons swept top-ranked Marymount 25-19, 29-15, 29-27 thanks to 31 assists by Natalie Guerra and 15 digs from Katherine Keller. Hadley Simmons had five kills with four blocks, and Emily Rottman and Mimi Cuttrell each put away eight kills.
Santa Barbara did not lose a set until the final match. The Dons face powerhouse Redondo Union this week, but assistant coach Lee Carlander said that October 9th is a day that the Dons are thinking about. That’s the day Santa Barbara plays Dos Pueblos at Sovine Gym.
We still have business to take care of, but that match is going to be fun,” said Carlander.
