Sophomore Chase Racich scored 23 goals in five matches as the Dos Pueblos boys water polo team made it all the way to Saturday’s final of the Riverside Poly Tournament before losing a heartbreaker to Arroyo Grande, 12-11.
“We pretty much dominated the game until there were two minutes left in the third period,” said coach Chris Parrish.
The coach said that his team was exhausted after beating Loyola 14-13 in the semis thanks to Derrick Shoemaker’s game-winner with five seconds remaining in the second overtime. According to Parrish, Shoemaker was the team’s most stable player throughout the tournament.
The Chargers play next against University High of Irvine in the opening round of the South Coast Tournament on Thursday.
