Despite a valiant defensive effort, Carpinteria’s girls volleyball team wasn’t able to get by the block of Laguna Blanca enough to avoid a 23-25, 25-11, 25-12, 25-19 loss to the Owls on Thursday.
“We came out really strong in game one and the girls were really pumped to play Laguna because we lost to them in their tournament last weekend,” said Warriors coach Katie Dolge.
But Laguna’s block warmed up in the second, as did the Owls’ defense, the rest of the way.
“Laguna’s always been a great defensive team, and their block was better than ours,” said Dolge.
Carpinteria (1-1) libero Yadira Saldana had a whopping 33 digs in the match, and Hannah Denitz and Monique Enamorado combined for 24 more. The Warriors host Little Rock Friday at 4 p.m.
