A 1-3 finish at the Riverside Poly Tournament came with some notable individual performances for the San Marcos boys water polo team.
Goalie Travis Johnson amassed 18 saves and even scored two goals in a 12-9 loss to Great Oak on Saturday.
“He’s by far our best all-around player,” said coach Jeff Ashton. “We’ll have him in goal, call a timeout, have him go in the field to score and then put him back there.”
Sam Boysel had a 4-goal game on Friday against Canyon of Anaheim, and San Marcos picked up the lone win with a 9-2 decision over Yucaipa.
“I thought we played a lot better today and we’re steadily improving,” said Ashton.
