Talia and Ariana Hudson turned a 2-0 deficit into a 6-2 set win as the Dons took down University, the No.-6 ranked team in Division I, to open the season by the score of 10-8. April Ludwick and Zoe Miller battled to win an 85-minute set 9-7, having to fight off two match points in the process. Top singles player Rachel Decker-Sadowski went 3-0 and Ari Beckerman somehow ended up beating University’s No. 1 singles player despite falling to Nos. 2 and 3.
”Both coaches were using subs at various times because we had a lot of young women we still needed to differentiate between at this point in the season,” said coach Steve Geremia. “It was a pretty good day. You could see nerves all over the place because there was a very big crowd there, but I felt we competed well.”
The Dons play Marlborough, the team which knocked them out of the 2006 playoffs, on Wednesday.
