Freshman Karen Mjelde went 3-0 in singles competition as the Santa Barbara High girls tennis team opened Channel League play with an 11-7 win over visiting Ventura on Thursday.
“We were, of course, worried about a letdown after our match against Beverly Hills,” said coach Steve Geremia.
The Dons upset the Normans in a thriller on Wednesday, and Geremia has been told by the CIF office that his team will be top-ranked in the new polls.
“Does that mean you’re the best team? No. The show might eventually stink, but it’s still nice to get your name in lights for awhile,” said Geremia
The Dons (5-0, 1-0) got to take a look at some of the younger players on Thursday, and their coach said that they accomplished a lot. Aurora Garrison went 3-0 in singles and the twin tandem of Talia and Ariana Hudson went 2-0.
