John Hazelton’s Carpinteria Warriors improved to 2-1 on the year thanks to a defensive effort that made their coach proud.
“Defensively, it was essentially a shutout,” said Hazelton after his team’s 33-6 win at Nipomo.
The Titans’ only points came after a long opening kickoff return which resulted in an easy Nipomo score that made it 6-0. It was all Warriors from there.
“We had a plan and we executed on both sides of the ball, and when you execute you win ballgames,” said Hazelton.
Nipomo was coming off of a 24-0 drubbing of a big, tough Arroyo Grande team, but the 20-something players on the Warrior roster proved that strength isn’t always in numbers. Last week’s loss to Morro Bay saw a significant amount of drops by Carpinteria receivers, but Hazelton said “it was a completely different group” on Friday night.
Quarterback RJ Rosborough ran for two touchdowns and Eddie Sanchez “caught the ball beautifully,” Eddie Sanchez had a solid night on both sides of the ball.
