One is more important, and the other is more impressive.The important one is that the Gauchos got their first win of the season, a 63-54 home decision over Northern Colorado, to improve to 1-4 on the season. Sheri Pine, Sports Information Director for the Golden State Athletic Conference has released the 2010-11 GSAC Basketball Coaches' Preseason Polls.On the men's side, Westmont tied for third with long-time rival Biola, each team received 89 points out of a possible 121. Biola finished second in the GSAC standings last season with a record of 16-4 and Westmont tied Fresno Pacific for fourth with a 13-7 mark.Azusa Pacific tops the poll with 116 points, including six first place votes. The Westmont Athletics Hall of Fame is about to increase in number by three. In a ceremony to be held on Friday during Homecoming weekend, Tine Hardeman of the class of 1955 will be joined by two 1997 graduates as 2010 inductees - Miriam Niednagel Ryan and Riva DaSilva.First established in 1995, this year's honorees will comprise the eighth class admitted into the Hall of Fame, bringing its membership to 31. Local disc golfers will join traditional golfers Monday, Oct. 4, at Montecito Country Club for the third annual William Wiersma Golf and Disc Tournament, which benefits the William Wiersma Memorial Scholarship Endowment at Westmont.Golfers will tee off at 1 p.m., following a light lunch at noon.
