UCSB takes out Pac 10′s Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - UCSB (2-5) captured its second win of the season on Saturday defeating Oregon State, 59-53, at the Beavers' Gill Coliseum.The Gauchos shot 43.4 percent from the field while holding the Beavers to 31.9 percent, a season-low for UCSB opposition. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — UCSB's Scott Smith and Crystal Reed competed at Monday's NCAA Cross Country Championships, held at Indiana State University's LaVern Gibson Course.The athletes were greeted by a warm day and a firm course, which contributed to the fast times clocked in the races.Smith finished 50th in the men's 10k race, narrowly missing the All-American honors awarded to the top 40 runners. The UCSB women's volleyball team was picked to finish fifth in the Big West's Coaches Preseason Poll, released by the conference on Tuesday.The Gauchos return several key players from last year's squad and thus are expected to finish higher than they ended the 2008 season.
