Sixth-ranked UC Santa Barbara (8-6) suffered a pair of 10-9 losses on Sunday, the final day of the UCI Invitational, to take eighth place at the tournament. STANFORD - The sixth-ranked UCSB men's water polo team (5-3) took sixth at the Northern California Invitational after splitting its two games on Sunday at Stanford. Last time the UCSB and UC San Diego men's water polo teams met last season, it took the Gauchos seven overtime periods to defeat the Tritons. No. 7 UCSB was able to take care of the Tritons in a much more expedient fashion on Saturday, defeating No. 10 UCSD, 15-12 in the opening game of the Triton Invitational at La Jolla High School's Coggan Family Aquatics Center. The UCSB men's water polo team was picked to finish fifth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation standings according to a preseason coaches' poll released by the conference on Wednesday.The Gauchos received 32 points in the poll, 10 behind fourth-ranked UCLA and six points ahead of Pepperdine and UC Irvine, which were tied sixth.USC, the 2008 NCAA Champion and MPSF Champion, was ranked first with six first-place votes and 61 total points.
