Santa Barbara City College's new logo for its sports teams.

Santa Barbara City College has unveiled a new logo that the Athletic Department will be using immediately.It features a Vaquero - its face covered by a bandana and topped with a Cowboy Hat - holding the reins of a black horse. SBCC men’s basketball among state’s top scholars

The SBCC men’s basketball team has been named a finalist for the State Team Scholar Award by the California Community College Athletic Association.The Vaqueros have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.28. Vaqueros in WSC Supremacy hunt

It’s tight at the top of the Western State Conference Supremacy standings after the fall season and SBCC is in the thick of it.The Vaqueros are second with 36 points, two behind the leader, Cuesta. Five schools are between 32 and 38 points in the 2011-12 competition that features 15 schools.Cuesta was fourth last year. Ventura, the defending champ, is in fifth place with 32 points. SBCC’s Stanley serves up Vaquero victory

Duran Stanley did it all on Tuesday night at La Playa Stadium, scoring a pair of goals and drawing a penalty kick in SBCC’s 3-0 shutout of Rio Hondo in the second round of the Southern Cal Regional men’s soccer playoffs.Stanley, a freshman from Honduras who played for Santa Barbara High a few years ago, opened the scoring in the 19th minute. SBCC turned in one of its better performances of the year but still came up short in the opening round of the Southern Cal Regional at No. 2 seed El Camino in Torrance. The Warriors won the women’s volleyball playoff match 3-1 (25-17, 17-25, 25-17, 25-22).Freshman Emily Banas had 12 kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Heidi Van Den Oever added 10 kills and an ace. Duran Stanley redirected a free kick by Jordan Tabor into the goal in the 83rd minute on Saturday, sparking SBCC to a 2-1 victory over L.A. Moorpark completed a perfect WSC campaign with a 3-0 women’s volleyball sweep of SBCC on Thursday night at Moorpark. The scores were 25-13, 25-14, 25-17.The 10th-ranked Raiders (20-3, 12-0) didn’t lose a set in WSC North play, going 36-0. The No. 24 Vaqueros (13-10, 10-2) had their five-match win streak halted. Vaquero women to host SoCal Regional game Saturday

SBCC was seeded No. 2 for the Southern Cal Regional women’s soccer playoffs and will host San Bernardino Valley on Saturday. The game will be played at 2 p.m. at Westmont College in the second half of a doubleheader with the Vaquero men’s team.Santa Barbara went 16-2 in the regular season and 11-1 in the WSC North, sharing the conference crown with Ventura. SBCC’s Bullemer improves to 3rd in state

SBCC sophomore Nicole Bullemer fired a 78 on Tuesday to capture third place in the Community College State Women’s Golf Championships at Kings Country Club in Hanford.She started on the back nine and shot even-par 36 on the front side with birdies at No. 3 and 8. Her score was the second-best of the day and left her at 14-over 158.
