Davis 8th in shot put, Bailey 9th in 1500 at State Meet

SBCC's Zoe Davis took eighth in the women's shot put at the 59th California State Championships on Saturday with a throw of 39-4 1/2 inches at Cerritos College in Norwalk. It was the third-best mark in school history for the freshman, who holds the school record at 39-9 3/4.In the men's 1500, Matt Bailey was ninth in a time of 3:57.68. Schaeffer wins State Scholar award

Erika Schaeffer, a standout runner on the SBCC cross country and track teams, has been named to the 2011 California Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. Schaeffer had a 3.96 GPA and was one of 11 women to receive the highest student-athlete honor from the California Community College Athletic Association. She finished 13th in the 2010 State Cross Country Championships and was the Southern Cal steeplechase champion in the 2011 track and field season. Krivulka opens with a bang

Kaytee Krivulka threw the hammer 109 feet, 10½ inches on Friday for the fifth-best mark in school history, highlighting SBCC’s performance in the season-opening Mt. SAC All-Comers Meet in Walnut.Krivulka is a freshman from Santa Ynez High. The SBCC men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for 40 season-best marks in a pair of meets on Friday and Saturday. The Vaqueros competed in the Occidental Distance Carnival in Eagle Rock and the Cal State Northridge Invitational.The women posted 20 season bests, led by Ayla Granados, who took second in the 1,500 meters at Occidental. The SBCC women’s distance medley relay team placed second on a rainy Friday in the WSC Relays track meet at Ventura College. Cecilia Instebo (1200m), Margot Valenzuela (400m), Ayla Granados (800m) and Erika Schaeffer (1600m) combined to finish in 13:01.08.Kelli Johnson was second in the high jump as she cleared 1.65 meters for the second straight week. Johan Lindqvist took first in the triple jump (44 feet, 7 1/2 inches) and second in the long jump (20-7 1/4) on Friday as SBCC placed third in the six-team WSC Coastal Track Meet at Ventura College.Aeryus Holloway led a 1-2-3 Vaquero effort in the long jump with a leap of 20-7 1/4.
