Trojans shut down UCSB attack at MPSF tourney

Second-ranked USC held seventh-seeded UCSB scoreless through three quarters on Friday morning on its way to a 10-2 victory in the opening round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship at Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center.The two-time defending national champions went up 4-0 in the first quarter and then led by seven goals at halftime. UCSB ended the 2009 season by overpowering Pacific with a 20-11 victory in the seventh-place game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament on Sunday morning at McDonald's Swim Stadium on the USC campus.The Gauchos were the first to get on the board when Zsombor Vincze fired a shot from eight meters out to give UCSB a 1-0 lead just 42 seconds into the first quarter. LOS ANGELES – Seventh-seeded UCSB fell to No. 2 seed Stanford on Friday morning in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament being played through Sunday at McDonald’s Swim Stadium on the USC campus.
