SAN JOSE — Behind double-doubles from Leah Sully and Kara Sherrard, the UCSB women's volleyball team won the Santa Clara Tournament on Saturday night by defeating San Jose State 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-18.The win capped off a three-match sweep of the weekend's foes for a tournament victory and the Gauchos are now riding a four-match winning streak. Gauchos snap skid, tame Bulldogs in four games

Stacey Schmidt had 20 kills and hit a whopping .581 to lead the Gauchos past Georgia in the finale of the Pepperdine Asics Challenge on Saturday evening.UCSB snapped a four-match losing streak with its 21-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-20 victory over the Bulldogs. UCSB drops decision to Miami

Despite three players reaching double digits in kills, the UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to Miami on Friday in the opener of the Pepperdine Asics Challenge.Scores were 25-19, 25-23, 25-22. UCSB takes a game off No. 8 Illinois, BYU

Gauchos lose outside hitter Sully for the season

The UCSB women’s volleyball team suffered a big blow when it learned Thursday that starting outside hitter Leah Sully would be lost for the rest of the season after suffering a torn knee ligament.Sully, a sophomore, tore her anterior cruciate ligament in the Gauchos’ season opener last Friday at Cal.The Irvine native led the 2009 squad in aces, finished second in digs and was third in kills.
