It might not have been the No. 1 team, but it felt just as good for Carpinteria's boys soccer team.The Warriors opened up Tri-Valley League play on Monday with a 3-0 shutout of Oaks Christian, which lost its No. 1 ranking earlier in the day when the new CIF polls were released.The Lions fell from the top position to No. 7. Johnny Requejo, a freshman at Carpinteria High, is one of 36 soccer players invited to a training camp for the U.S. under-15 national team in Bradenton, Fla.Requejo, who plays on the varsity at Carpinteria and is a member of the Santa Barbara Soccer Club, is among nine defenders in the camp, which is run by coach Jim Barlow. Carpinteria took on CIF Division 1 school Royal and played the Highlanders to a 3-3 tie on Wednesday night.Royal rallied to gain the draw, scoring in the 70th minute on a penalty kick.“It was a fun game,” Carpinteria coach Danny Torres said. “It went back and forth.
