Gauchos unable to close out UC Davis

UCSB couldn’t seal the deal in Davis Saturday night.After taking a two-games-to-none lead, the Gauchos saw UC Davis rally to win three in a row and take the Big West women’s volleyball match.UCSB captured the first two games, 30-28 and 25-21, but the Aggies bounced back to win the next three, 25-21, 25-15, 15-8, and hand the Gauchos their second conference loss of the season.UCSB is now 11-9 overall and 5-2 in the Big West. UCSB and Cal Poly engaged in a closely fought season-opening cross country meet on Saturday, with the Gauchos winning in the men’s race and the Mustangs eking out a victory on the women’s side.Juan Paredes paced the UCSB men to a 24-31 victory. Erica Seidman, who scored game-winning goals in UCSB’s season-opening matches over the weekend, has been named the first Big West Offensive Player of the Week.Seidman, a senior midfielder who had scored only one goal in her UCSB career, scored early in the first half of a 2-0 win over Cal State Northridge on Friday.
