BracketBuster matchups set, Gauchos travel to Utah State

The UCSB men’s basketball team will travel to Utah State on Saturday, Feb. 18 for a Sears BracketBuster game, it was announced Monday.  The game will not be televised.All Big West teams are participating in the BracketBusters event. UCSB senior Mathieu Forget has been named the year's first Big West Male Tennis Athlete of the Week after posting three wins in his first five singles matches this season. Johnson nets Big West Player of Week for UNLV performance

Senior guard Orlando Johnson, who nearly led UCSB to an upset of 18th-ranked UNLV on Nov. 30, was named Big West Player of the Week the league announced Monday.Johnson scored a season-high 36 points, had 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots as the Gauchos lost a 94-88 double overtime decision to the visiting Runnin’ Rebels. The men's basketball teams at UCSB and Long Beach State have more in common than both having lost to San Diego State in overtime this season. The Gauchos and 49ers each fell in this week's Mid-Major Top-25.The Gauchos (4-1) fell only one spot after losing to the Aztecs 76-75 in their last game. Three UCSB women's volleyball players were honored as All-Big West First Team selections and the Gauchos, who finished second in the conference, placed five players on all-conference teams, the league announced on Tuesday. The UCSB women's volleyball team is on a roll.The Gauchos won their sixth straight match, easily dispatching UC Riverside 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 on Saturday night.With the victory, the Gauchos put the NCAA Tournament squarely in their sights. NORTHRIDGE  – UCSB needed just one lead in the final set. Gauchos lock up four prep recruits for hoops

For the second consecutive year, the UCSB men’s basketball program has signed an outstanding class of recruits.
