Santa Barbara’s Lakey Peterson has made it to the big leagues of professional surfing.Peterson has earned one the coveted 17 spots on the ASP Women’s World Tour for 2012. Martinez set to defend title in Tahiti

Santa Barbara's Tom Curren is keeping the competitive torch aflame after competing in last week's U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. Santa Barbara's Lakey Peterson defeated Australia's Tyler Wright in a two-person heat on Friday at the U.S. Open of Surfing, giving Peterson a spot in Saturday's semifinals of the Women's Open competition.It's the first ever U.S. Open for the 15-year-old Peterson, who'll be up against Carissa Moore in one semifinal.
