San Marcos freshman Sam Metzger qualified for the CIF-SCGA Championships.

San Marcos freshman Sam Metzger tied for 10th place at the CIF-SS Boys Golf Individual Finals and qualified for the CIF-SCGA Championships next Monday at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena.

He is the only qualifier from Santa Barbara County.

Metzger shot a 2-over par 73 on Tuesday at the Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs. He tied with four other golfers. The cutoff line was 76.

“Sam played an amazing round and had never seen the course before,” San Marcos coach Aaron Solis said. “He played a smart, mature round of golf. Sam and assistant coach Devin Uyesaka had a great game plan going into the round, stuck to it, and it paid off.

“Going through Channel League and CIF-SS Northern Regional was difficult enough,” he added. “To make it to SCGA as a freshman, is simply amazing.”

KK Limbhasut of Redlands won the individual title with 67 and Aaron Wise of Santiago/Corona finished second at 68.

The SCGA Championships combine the Southern Section, San Diego Section, Los Angeles City Section and the Central Section. It serves as a qualifier for the CIF State Championship.
