Injury-riddled SBVC 16-Smack presses forward
The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's 16-Smack team was missing four players due to injury or illness and had just one sub at the Regionals in Anaheim, but it managed to pick up some wins in preparation for Junior Nationals.The team won its first match again Golden West thanks to some nice setting in the 5-1 offense by Hannah Porter. Spieler sisters earn AAA beach rating in Hermosa
Local sisters Cara and Katie Spieler won this weekend's California Beach Volleyball Association AA Tournament in Hermosa Beach to earn an AAA-rating — the highest achievable.Cara, 19, played for Jon Lee at San Marcos and now plays for Tufts University in Boston. On Saturday in Anaheim, the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 12-Smack team won all of its matches in pool play to place first for the day and move up to Division V.
