Local Fusion U14 squad caps big year with PAL title

The Santa Barbara-based team in the Ventura County Fusion program finished 10-0 in the Police Athletic League's  summer league.

A Santa Barbara-based under-14 boys soccer team playing for the Ventura County Fusion capped a steller first season by winning the championship of the Police Athletic League Summer League.Santa Barbara won the title game 3-0 to finish with a perfect 10-0 record.The team was formed last year by Hugo Ronces, Jaime Gonzales and Mike Sjollema. Strikers take second at Splash Tournament

The Santa Barbara Strikers won three tournaments during the AYSO postseason.

Tidal Waves enjoy sweet taste of victory at Apricot Jam

The Santa Barbara Tidal Waves won the boys under-10 title at the Moorpark Apricot Jam.

The Tidal Waves, Santa Barbara AYSO boys under-10 team, won the championship of the Moorpark Apricot Jam with an undefeated record. The team posted shutouts over Pacific Palisades (1-0) and Balboa (5-0), beat Saugus 3-2 in the semifinals and defeated Castaic 4-1 in the title match.Jaime Gonzalez and Eric Swanson are the coaches. Carpinteria’s Requejo in Croatia with U.S. under-15 squad

The Santa Barbara Wavestorm beat Valencia to win the Carpinteria Beach Cup.

The Santa Barbara Wavestorm boys all-star team won the AYSO Area 10W championship.

Bakersfield is the goal for AYSO teams playing in Area postseason tournaments.The Santa Barbara Wavestorm, a 12-under boys all-star squad, reached that goal last weekend by winning the Area 10W championship in Camarillo.The Wavestorm rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit against Ventura, scoring two second-half goals to tie the score and then prevailing in a penalty-kick shootout, 3-2. Justin Vom Steeg is in Guadalajara, Mexico as a member of the U.S. under-14 boys national soccer team.Vom Steeg, the starting goalkeeper for the Olympic Development Program Region IV U-14 team, is one of four goalkeepers on the 36-player squad that will play a series of friendly matches against local youth club teams, including Atlas and Chivas of Guadalajara.Justin plays for the Santa Barbara Soccer Club. Johnny Requejo, a freshman at Carpinteria High, is one of 36 soccer players invited to a training camp for the U.S. under-15 national team in Bradenton, Fla.Requejo, who plays on the varsity at Carpinteria and is a member of the Santa Barbara Soccer Club, is among nine defenders in the camp, which is run by coach Jim Barlow.
