SB Riptide open up season with tourney championship

The Santa Barbara Riptide 11u baseball team participated in its first tournament last weekend in Oxnard. The Riptide is comprised of 11 year olds ranging from Santa Barbara to Santa Maria.The Riptide took the field in their first ever contest against the Westlake Stars. Pitching carries SY Heat to title in wood bat tournament

The Santa Ynez Heat won the inaugural Maple Bat Tournament.

The Santa Ynez Heat won four games in a row to take home the championship trophy in the 16U division at the first Maple Mash Tournament held at the Santa Maria Elks Field last weekend.“With only a total of four runs allowed in four games, our pitching was dominant this weekend,” said Heat coach Gino Filippin.  “And our pitchers were well supported by the way we swung those wood bats.”In the opener of the wood bat tourney, the Heat downed the Santa Maria Baseball Club 8-1.A … [Read more...]

Last weekend the 14u Santa Barbara Riptide Baseball team cruised to its 5th tournament championship in its last seven tournaments.The Riptide won the championship in comeback fashion by beating a very tough Mac Baseball team 9-6.With the Riptide trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the 5th, Luke Coffey lead off the inning with a double to deep centerfield. SY Heat scorch competition, win Fall Classic

The Santa Ynez Heat went undefeated and captured the championship at the Dare 2 Dream Fall Classic in Paso Robles.

The Santa Ynez Heat pounded out 48 hits and scored 47 runs to win first-place honors in the 16-and-under division at the Dare 2 Dream Fall Classic Baseball Tournament in Paso Robles over the Labor Day weekend.The Heat’s roster includes top players from all over Santa Barbara County — Santa Ynez, Santa Barbara, Lompoc and Orcutt—as well as from Atascadero and Paso Robles. The Santa Barbara Riptide 13-under travel team won the Santa Maria Showdown championship

The Santa Barbara Riptide notched their fourth straight tournament title last weekend at the Santa Maria Showdown.The Riptide, a 13-under travel baseball team, routed the Central Cal Ballers 13-3 in a championship game that was called after five innings on a 10-run mercy rule.  The Riptide trailed 3-2 before exploding for 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth.John Jensen led the offensive, going 3-4 with a single, double and triple and driving in three runs. Dos Pueblos defeated Saticoy 6-1 in the opening game of the District 63 Little League 11-under all-star tournament.Will Goodwin needed only 70 pitches in a complete-game performance while allowing no earned runs. Stealth erupt in playoffs, romp to Las Virgenes tourney title

The So Cal Stealth, a Pony All-Star baseball team from Santa Ynez, won the 14-under division championship at the Las Virgenes Tournament in Agoura.The Stealth overcame a 1-1 start in pool play and won their final three games of the tournament by a 38-6 margin, including a 13-3 rout of West Hills in the championship game on Monday night.Aidan Williams was monster at the plate for the Stealth, going 11-for-15 with two doubles, a triple and a solo homer in five games. Nick Kitzman and Luke Coffey combined on a two-hit shutout, and Quinntin Perez played flawless defense at shortstop, leading the 13-under Santa Barbara Riptide Baseball Club to a 7-0 win over the Tustin Mets in the championship game of the Orange County Spring Opener tournament in Huntington Beach.Kitzman pitched five innings and Luke Coffey finished up with two strong innings.
