The Page Youth Center/Santa Barbara Spikers Boys Volleyball Club sent two teams to the Boys Junior National Championships in Austin, TX, last week with the 16-U team finishing 15th out of 36 in the Open Division. The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 13-Smack and 14-Smack teams both took second at the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix last week.The 18-Smack and 16-Smack teams both qualified for the Open division of the Junior Nationals, which is the highest division possible and they competed among the top 32 teams across the nation. Injury-riddled SBVC 16-Smack presses forward
The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's 16-Smack team was missing four players due to injury or illness and had just one sub at the Regionals in Anaheim, but it managed to pick up some wins in preparation for Junior Nationals.The team won its first match again Golden West thanks to some nice setting in the 5-1 offense by Hannah Porter. Finishing in 5th place of the Silver Division, the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's 13-Smack team ended their regular season on a high note at the Regionals tournament in Artesia last weekend.On day one, the team had a slow start in the first match of the morning pool play. Currently ranked seventh in the Southern California Volleyball Association, the 18-Smack competed in the Gold bracket among the top 32 teams in SoCal. The team went 5-1 in pool play Saturday and Sunday and later went on to win the tournament. It was a tough weekend for the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club teams in the final regular-season tournament in Anaheim last weekend.The 12 Smack squad placed 4th for the day in Division 4, losing to Sunshine 12-South Bay Falyn 25-11, 25-18, Mavericks 12-Bonne 25-17, 25-11, and SCVC 12-White 25-10, 25-11.
