SBCC spikers get 2012 season going

Vaqueros pick up two wins at Santa Monica Tournament

Matt Winslow had 12 kills on Saturday and Cody Kreitzer added 10 to guide SBCC to a 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 men’s volleyball sweep of Grossmont at the Santa Monica Tournament.In the second match, the Vaqueros sent out a completely different lineup and beat San Diego Mesa 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17). UCSB upsets Pepperdine for first MPSF win

Dylan Davis was a force at the net with seven blocks, leading the UCSB men's volleyball team to an upset over No. 8 Pepperdine on Friday night at the Firestone Fieldhouse. Gauchos still searching for first league win

UCSB remained winless in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation on Wednesday night, falling to the USC Trojans by game scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-21.Having lost four straight matches, UCSB now sits at 2-6, with a 0-4 record in conference play. Vaqueros swept by Orange Coast

Orange Coast used a fast start Wednesday night to sweep SBCC 3-0 in a nonconference men’s volleyball match at Costa Mesa. SBCC reached the semifinals of the season-opening Long Beach Invitational men’s volleyball tournament on Sunday before falling to El Camino 25-20.Jordon Dyer, a sophomore setter from Dos Pueblos High, and Michael Naki, the lone returner from last year’s 9-9 playoff team, led the Vaqueros. UCSB ran into a red-hot UCLA men's volleyball team and was swept, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19, on Friday night in Westwood.It was the third straight loss for the Gauchos, who fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Stanford takes out Gauchos in four

For the second time in as many nights, the No. 13 Gauchos were felled in four sets by a rival MPSF team from the north. On Saturday night, they lost to the fourth-ranked Stanford Cardinal 3-1, with game scores of 25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18.UCSB is now 0-2 in MPSF play, with a 2-4 overall mark. Three Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 15s teams opened their seasons in impressive fashion, with two of them earning byes in the second qualifying round in the Gold Bracket and the other going unbeaten in the Silver Bracket.The 15-Smack team steam rolled through its Gold bracket pool on the first round of the qualifying matches at El Camino College. Gauchos stumble in conference opener

UCSB dropped its first conference match of the season on Friday night, losing to Pacific 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13) at Rob Gym.Coming into the match, the Gauchos had taken 12 of the last 13 meetings between the two teams.
