The Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons are set to host its 74th annual adult open tournament this Fourth of July weekend. SoCal Sectional’s Round of 16 stops local juniors

Stratman holds down local designated tourney

Lauren Stratman claimed the Girls 18 title at the 95th Santa Barbara Summer Junior Tennis Tournament this weekend, defeating Dorothy Tang 6-3, 6-2 in the final.Stratman, from Goleta, made the championship match by defeating doubles partner and No. 1 seed April Scatliffe in the semifinals. After battling through five rounds of opponents this past week in Elk Grove, sophomore Lauren Stratman of Dos Pueblos proved to be unbeatable.Stratman did not drop a single set in the US Tennis Association National Open 16 division. As the competition got stiffer, Stratman continued to dominate by big margins. The first day of the Ojai Tennis Tournament was full of victories for the Santa Barbara juniors.Tournament play started Thursday at 8 a.m. at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club, beginning with the Pac-10 women’s draw.On center court, Stanford’s Lindsey Burdette faced off against Arizona’s Claire Rietsch. The Fullerton Tennis Patrons hosted its 65th annual designated tournament in February, accepting 1,144 player entries to make it the biggest tournament ever held by them.
