PHOTO GALLERY INTRO: Santa Barbara High's girls tennis team won its first CIF girls tennis title since 2003 on Monday at the Claremont Tennis Club. The Dons topped Newport Harbor for the Division II crown. Santa Barbara won the championship match 16-2, capping an impressive playoff run in 2011. CLAREMONT - There's no longer any question as to who the best girls tennis team in Division II of CIF's Southern Section is, as the Santa Barbara High Dons annihilated Newport Harbor 16-2 in Monday's championship match at the Claremont Tennis Club.The Dons clinched the victory after winning the first two rounds 11-1. CLAREMONT - The amazing - and unprecedented - CIF run put together by Carpinteria's girls tennis team came to an end at Monday's CIF-ss championships, as the Warriors fell to Wilson of Hacienda Heights 15-3 in the Division V final.Carpinteria made the finals by coming up with upset after upset during the postseason. Kelsie Bryant of the Carpinteria girls tennis team and Santa Barbara City College soccer player Jordan Tabor have been named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.Bryant, a freshman, helped Carpinteria reach the CIF team tennis finals for the first time in 34 years. The two local teams in Monday's CIF-ss girls tennis finals have taken completely different paths to get there. The Santa Barbara Dons, a perennial tennis power, have defended their No. 1 seed on their way to the Division II championship while the Warriors have will be playing in their first Division V title match in 34 years.All Southern Section Divisional championships are being played at Claremont Tennis Club in Claremont. Santa Barbara High's girls tennis team is back in a CIF championship match for the first time since 2006 after the Dons' 15-3 victory over visiting El Dorado on Thursday.The Dons were only the second team to defeat the Golden Hawks this season and did it with relative ease.
