UCSB head swim coach Gregg Wilson has signed three men’s swimmers to National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period it was announced recently.Randy Aakhus will join the Gauchos after completing his prep career with Frontier High School. The Bakersfield native swims for Bakersfield Swim Club, where he is coached by Keith Moore. The Gaucho men and women's swim teams both beat the Cal Poly Mustangs in an exciting meet this Saturday in what proved to be an almost even matchup. The women edged out Cal Poly 172 to 122 while the men had an even narrower margin with a score of 152.5 to 137.5.The Gauchos got off to a good start with wins from the men and women's 200 medley relays. The UCSB swim team cruised by Cal State Northridge and UC San Diego in a triple dual meet Friday at Campus pool. The Gaucho men and Gaucho women beat both Northridge and UCSD by a considerable margin. Gaucho swimmers fall to Bruins, beat Beavers
The UCSB women's swim team competed in their 2009-2010 season opener swim meet against the Oregon State and the UCLA on Saturday afternoon at Campus Pool. The Gauchos lost to UCLA with a score of 165-94, but beat OSU 182-80 in the sixth annual triple dual meet against the two Pac-10 teams.UCSB started off a little rocky with the disqualification of the 200 medley "A" relay in the first event. JERUSALEM, Israel – Current UCSB swimmer Naomi Javanifard and Gaucho alum Jason Lezak proved to be great representation of the United States and UCSB during the Maccabiah Games swim competition that ran Sunday through Wednesday in Israel. Wadley beats the kelp in 6-mile win
On Sunday, 23 swimmers took part in the annual Semana Nautica 6-mile swim. The course ran from Goleta to Arroyo Burro Beach, which always includes many natural obstacles. This year the swimmers had to endure strong currents and giant kelp beds, slowing their times.
