Santa Barbara's Tom Curren is keeping the competitive torch aflame after competing in last week's U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. Santa Barbara's Lakey Peterson defeated Australia's Tyler Wright in a two-person heat on Friday at the U.S. Open of Surfing, giving Peterson a spot in Saturday's semifinals of the Women's Open competition.It's the first ever U.S. Open for the 15-year-old Peterson, who'll be up against Carissa Moore in one semifinal. Santa Barbara's Lakey Peterson and Parker Coffin conquered several heats to reach the finals of Surfing America's USA Championships on Monday, where they were finally stopped just short of national championships.Coffin ended up in second place in the boys-16 Division, finishing just behind champion Kolohe Andino.
