Dos Pueblos coach Anthony Califano is sending wrestlers Chad Lampe, center, and Yaskin Solano to the CIF Masters Meet.

Dos Pueblos' Chad Lampe and Yaskin Solano advanced to the CIF Masters Meet after placing in Saturday's Southern Section Division 2 tournament.Solano outperformed his eighth seed and finished in third at 170 pounds. Dos Pueblos will face once-beaten Highland in the first round of the CIF Division 4 Wrestling Team Championships at Quartz Hill High on Saturday.The Chargers (11-3) finished second to Ventura in the Channel League. Santa Barbara’s Bryce Vinion and Chad Lampe of Dos Pueblos repeated as champions and Chargers Yaskin Solano and Rudy Cortes captured their first titles Saturday at the Channel League wrestling championships at Santa Barbara High’s J.R. Vinion wins Chaminade Invitational

Santa Barbara High wrestler Bryce Vinion went 4-0 at the Chaminade Invitational to win the 182-pound weight class, defeating Westlake's Glen Sanchez 7-0 in the finals.Other local results included San Marcos' Sebastian Balladarez taking third place at 126 pounds.Also for San Marcos, Alec Nuno placed seventh at 113 pounds.Next up for the student-athletes will be the Channel League Finals tournament on February 4.   … [Read more...]

Chargers edged out by Ventura for Channel League Championship

In a dual meet that determined the Channel League Champions, the Dos Pueblos wrestling team was unable to get enough points to beat Ventura.Each team won seven matches, but the Cougars had more pins and took first place in league with a 34-27 win.In the match of the night, freshman Cameron Cox wrestled a student who had dropped weight to 113 pounds, and the Ventura wrestler took an early 3-0 lead.
