Campbell topples another record; DP splits with Ventura
Erin Campbell had already broken a 33-year-old Dos Pueblos record in the 800 last week at Buena. On Tuesday she broke another, this time in the mile with a time of five minutes, eight seconds flat. The Charger girls, however, narrowly fell to visiting Ventura 65.5-61.50. San Marcos' Hannah McDaniel cleared five feet, eight inches in the high jump on Thursday, giving her one of the best leaps in the state so far this season.McDaniel didn't stop there, winning the 400 in 60.2 seconds and taking part in the Royals' victory in the 4x400 relay. Shelby Dunlap won the 100, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump on Thursday but Carpinteria's girls track team fell to Nordhoff 72-64. Dunlap shared the high jump win with Caitlin Wallace, as both Warriors cleared 5-2. Nearly 2,000 athletes made for a busy day at the Ventura Invitational Track Meet on Saturday, and Santa Barbara and San Marcos each got a handful of highlight performances.Shane Rowen won the boys triple jump for San Marcos with a mark of 43 feet, 1.75 inches while JP Dodson was third in the 400-meters with a time of 53.2 seconds.
