Schaeffer finds success in first steeplechase
SBCC's Erika Schaeffer made a smashing debut in the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday at the Cal State Northridge Invitational, posting the third-fastest time in school history. Nearly 2,000 athletes made for a busy day at the Ventura Invitational Track Meet on Saturday, and Santa Barbara and San Marcos each got a handful of highlight performances.Shane Rowen won the boys triple jump for San Marcos with a mark of 43 feet, 1.75 inches while JP Dodson was third in the 400-meters with a time of 53.2 seconds. The Gauchos returned to the track this weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The main portion of the meet was held Saturday afternoon, with hammer throws being contested on Thursday and a distance carnival being held Saturday night.On Thursday Jean Lightfoot set a personal best in the hammer throw by more than 20 feet, reaching a mark of 173-4 (52.83m) to take third in the meet.
