Westmont senior Adam Thompkins tallied 4,939 points to win the Azusa Pacific Indoor Heptathlon and establish himself as one of the top multi-event contenders in the NAIA. San Marcos wants to celebrate its new all-weather track with a community mini-track meet and 5-kilometer run.The first Royal Races is scheduled for Saturday, Oct.15 at Warkentin Stadium.The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with a 5-k run that will take runners through and around campus. Track events will follow. Entrants can compete in the 50- and 100-meter dashes, the 400, 800, mile, 100 hurdles, long jump and high jump. The conditions weren't ideal, but Nick Scarvelis wasn't going to be derailed in his quest to win a state title in the shot put.The recent Dos Pueblos graduate won the gold medal on a cool, rainy Saturday at the CIF Track and Field State Championships at Buchanan High's Veteran's Stadium in Clovis.
