Eight Gaucho swimmers make Pac-12 All-Academic Team

Eight UC Santa Barbara men's swimmers have garnered Pac-12 All-Academic Team accolades it was announced recently by the conference.To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be a significant contributor to the team.Seniors Kevin Kuhn and Chris Peterson each garnered Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honors. Charger boys take second at Klaus Barth Invitational

Santa Barbara swims past San Marcos

The Santa Barbara High swimming team defeated San Marcos 131-54 in the boys meet and 108-75 in the girls meet on Thursday.Highlights for the Dons included Michael Van Wickle's wins in the 200 yard IM (2:11.29) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:03.52). Rams sweep double dual meet

The Cate swim team won out in its dual meet against St. Bonaventure and Grace Brethren.The girls team defeated St. Bonaventure 139 to 59 and Grace Brethren 116-59 while the boys beat St. Bonaventure 62-58 and Grace Brethren 70-10.Highlights for the Rams included Lydia Stevens' win in the 500 yard freestyle (5;53.8) and Maddie Schrager's victory in the 200 yard IM (2:33.4). Nguyen qualifies first in 500 free at Barth Invite

Janelle Nguyen led Dos Pueblos girls swimmers during qualifying at the Klaus Barth Invitational in Long Beach on Wednesday.Nguyen won the 500 freestyle and finished second in the 100 butterfly in the preliminaries Her 500 time was 5:08.43, which was nearly 12 seconds faster than second place. The San Marcos swim team lost both the boys and girls meets at home against Ventura on Thursday.The boys lost 123-47 while the girls were defeated 97-85.For the Royals, Abhi Sarkar-Frandsen had an excellent day in the pool, wining both the 50 yard freestyle (23.02) and 100 yard freestyle (51.15) races. AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore swimmers Andrea Ward and Sophia Yamauchi completed their event programs on Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.Yamauchi, who swam three events during the championships, finished 45th in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries. In what was first planned to be a three-way non-league meet between Dos Pueblos, Santa Barbara High and Fountain Valley, the Chargers and the Dons instead met on Friday at Santa Barbara High School in their one Channel League dual meet of the season.The Chargers boys prevailed 118-67 and the girls 120-63. Royals swimmers torpedo Yellowjackets

San Marcos' swim teams pulled off a sweep of Oxnard on Friday in the Royals' pool. The Royals' boys won 123-60 and the girls 121-62.Royals boys head coach Jeff Ashton liked what he saw in a number of races and noted James Sweeney, Jason Phreaner and Austin Howard for their contributions. Howard's score of 333 won the diving competition and was a CIF qualifying performance. Sweeney was the event-winner in the 100 backstroke and Phreaner won the 500 freestyle. Yamauchi opens NCAA Championships with the 200 IM

Sophomore swimmer Sophia Yamauchi opened competition at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championship on Thursday at Auburn's James E. Martin Aquatics Center.Yamauchi competed in the 200 individual medley, which is the first of three events she will be swimming at the championships.
