UCSB junior forward Sam Garza has signed a Generation adidas contract and will begin his Major League Soccer career.Garza is one of three early Generation adidas signees. Fox Soccer reported Monday that Duke standout Andrew Wenger and Akron star Darren Mattocks also signed offers. They were ranked No. 1 and 2 on a ranking of recognized underclassmen. Senior Luis Silva made history on Friday, as he became the first UCSB men's soccer player to garner NSCAA Men's Division I All-America First Team honors. The midfielder has also garnered NCAA All-Far West First Team accolades along with senior defender James Kiffe. UCSB senior midfielder Luis Silva has been named a semifinalist for the 2011 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy. He is the first Gaucho to be named to the list of semifinalists since Chris Pontius in 2008.The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.Providence advanced by defeating Ivy League champion Dartmouth, 1-0, in a first-round match on Thursday in Rhode Island. Seniors Luis Silva and James Kiffe were named the Big West Conference's Midfielder and Defender of the Year, respectively, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league. On a wet and wild night at Anteater Stadium, UC Irvine (16-5-1) defeated UC Santa Barbara (14-6-1), 3-2, in double overtime capturing the 2011 Big West Tournament title.With the score deadlocked at 2-2 in the second overtime period, Cameron Iwasa took a shot that deflected off of the left post of the Gaucho goal.
