Cate School's Ema Boateng has been named the Gatorade California Boys Soccer Player of the Year, it was announced on Tuesday.Boateng led the Rams to a Southern Section CIF championship in March. NCAA slaps UCSB’s Curry with one-game suspension

UCSB's rebuilding defense received a boost with the addition of Daniel Welsh, a transfer from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.Gaucho men's soccer coach Tim Vom Steeg announced the inclusion of the Scotland native to his program on Tuesday.Welsh played center back and right fullback for UMBC, earning NSCAA All-Northeast Region Third-Team and All-America East Second-Team honors last season. For the fifth straight year, UCSB led the nation in men's soccer attendance, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced.The Gauchos drew 62,192 fans for 13 matches at Harder Stadium during the 2011 season for an average of 4,782 fans per game. Maryland was second in attendance with an average of 3,781 fans.UCSB had the largest single-game crowd in the country this season, drawing 13,822 fans for the Nov. 4 match against Big West rival Cal Poly.
