The future looks bright for the UCSB men's soccer team following head coach Tim Vom Steeg's announcement of the latest additions to the 2012 roster on Wednesday.Cate School star midfielder Ema Boateng and goalkeeper Nick Savino (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) have both signed National Letters of Intent with the Gauchos. UCSB tops nation in soccer attendance for 5th year in a row

For the fifth straight year, UCSB led the nation in men's soccer attendance, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced.The Gauchos drew 62,192 fans for 13 matches at Harder Stadium during the 2011 season for an average of 4,782 fans per game. Maryland was second in attendance with an average of 3,781 fans.UCSB had the largest single-game crowd in the country this season, drawing 13,822 fans for the Nov. 4 match against Big West rival Cal Poly. UCSB junior forward Sam Garza has signed a Generation adidas contract and will begin his Major League Soccer career.Garza is one of three early Generation adidas signees. Fox Soccer reported Monday that Duke standout Andrew Wenger and Akron star Darren Mattocks also signed offers. They were ranked No. 1 and 2 on a ranking of recognized underclassmen. UCSB senior midfielder Luis Silva has been named a semifinalist for the 2011 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy. He is the first Gaucho to be named to the list of semifinalists since Chris Pontius in 2008.The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer.
