Dos Pueblos had a number of quality performances at Saturday's Division 2 CIF Prelims at Moorpark College, but none bigger than Stamatia Scarvelis' winning shot put throw.Scarvelis, a sophomore, threw 49 feet, 5.5 inches to win the event with the best throw in the state so far this season. Valente claims top finish for Charger swimmers

Alex Valente placed third in the 100 butterfly at Saturday's CIF Finals in Riverside, giving the Dos Pueblos freshman the Charger boys team its best individual result.Valente entered the finals as the No. 4 seed but moved up one place with a time of 49.86.Classmate Blake Parrish finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 57.93.Valente and Parrish were the only freshmen to qualify for the finals in their respective events.Two Dos Pueblos relay teams clocked top-20 results. San Marcos' girls 4x400 relay team made the cut at Saturday's CIF Division 3 Prelims for the chance to compete at next week's CIF Finals at Mt. SAC.The team of Jillian Fisher, Kaylin Koopmans, Annie Thwing and Emily Allen posted a season-best time of 4:05.10 to finish ninth overall at Prelims.
