UCSB in good position to take back Big West track crown

The UCSB Gauchos will head down to UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium this weekend for the remainder of the Big West Conference Championships.Last year Long Beach State University won the men's division while the California State University-Northridge won the women's division. The Gauchos are looking in pretty good shape and hungrier than ever to reclaim their title.All of the multi-event athletes who competed last weekend will return to the track to compete in several open events. SBCC takes third in WSC Supremacy

SBCC placed third in the Western State Conference Supremacy race for the 2011-12 athletic season.The Vaqueros won WSC titles in men’s soccer, women’s soccer and baseball. It’s the third straight year that Santa Barbara has been in the top three out of 15 schools. The Vaqueros finished second in 2010 and 2011.Ventura captured eight conference championships to win the Supremacy title for the 14th straight year. The Cougars totaled 116 points. Alex Moore, husband of Westmont coach Kirsten Moore, dies

Alex Moore, the husband of Westmont College women’s basketball coach Kirsten Moore, died Wednesday from complications following surgery, the school announced in a press release.Alex Moore, 31, was an assistant professor in kinesiology at Westmont. The couple met at the college in 2005 when Kirsten became the women’s basketball coach. Angner, Hudson make All-WSC team

Warriors travel to Alabama for NAIA tennis championships

Head coach Mark Basham will take his eighth-ranked Westmont men's tennis team (11-9) to Mobile, Alabama for the third time in as many years. Gorski, Aarons fall short at regional

Trevor Gorski shot a promising 74 in the opening round of the Southern Cal Regional men’s golf tournament on Monday but couldn’t keep it going at Glendora Country Club.Gorski, one of two SBCC players competing as individuals, was in familiar surroundings as a graduate of Glendora High. Freshman infielder Jenessa Jeppesen was named the Big West Conference's Player of the Week after a standout performance at the plate this past weekend. Six SBCC athletes qualified for the finals on Saturday in the Southern Cal Track and Field Prelims at San Diego Mesa.Scott Santella led the men, clearing 1.90 meters (6-2¾) to tie for third in the high jump. Rio Hondo routs SBCC to win series

SBCC couldn’t do much in Game 2 of the Southern Cal Baseball Regional on Saturday and Rio Hondo did everything in a 12-1 victory at Whittier.The Vaqueros lost the best-of-3 series two games to none. SBCC, the 15th seed and WSC North co-champion, finishes at 20-19.
