City golf championship set for Memorial Day weekend

Allen Geiberger will be looking to put his famous last name on the trophy at this weekend’s 53rd annual Santa Barbara City Golf Championship at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.The 54-hole amateur tournament, a Memorial Day weekend tradition, begins Saturday and concludes Monday.Geiberger, a Santa Barbara native and the son of former PGA star Al “Mr. 59” Geiberger, finished second to Andrew Perez in last year’s tournament. Mendoza returns to football as head coach at Dos Pueblos

Nate Mendoza was back on the baseball field Tuesday at Dos Pueblos High, but the coach wasn’t hitting ground balls or going over signs with his ballplayers. Instead he was running the football team through a spring workout.Mendoza, the successful varsity baseball coach at DP, was handed the varsity football head coaching job on Tuesday by Athletic Director Dan Feldhaus. The Santa Barbara Soccer Club's Boys Under-14 White won the Cal South National Cup championship. The team won seven matches in the tournament.
