WATCH OUR VIDEO------- Moninda Marube made it two for two in Santa Barbara on Saturday, returning to triumph in his second straight Santa Barbara International Marathon.The Kenyan edged out Michael Wardian, who crossed the finish line less than 10 seconds behind Marube. Two hundred and seventy-two athletes competed on the Olympic Course of Sunday's Carpinteria Triathlon, with another 471 soloists taking on the Sprint Course. Combined with 22 relay teams, it was an active day for local triathletes.Stepan Paul improved on his third-place standing from a year ago to become Olympic Course champion in 2011. Capone claims age-group title at Ironman 70.3 Worlds

Santa Barbara’s Lauren Capone won the women's 20-24 category at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Henderson, Nev. on Sunday, Sept. 11.Capone, who competes for Elite Racing Team, completed the event in 4 hours, 52 minutes, 52 seconds, edging out the second place competitor by 35 seconds."It was a tough day with over 5,000 feet of climbing and all totally exposed to the sun and heat,” Capone said. “I felt really strong and smooth on the bike. Santa Barbara’s Walker Bell finished 15th overall out of more than 300 swimmers in the La Jolla Rough Water Gatorman 3-mile ocean swim on Sunday.The 14-year-old Dos Pueblos freshman finished in 1 hour, 6 minutes, 32 seconds. He was the youngest male competitors in the event.Bell’s 13-18 age group dominated the event, taking eight of the top 10 places. SBSC’s Bell, Smith win honors at final Nite Moves event

Members of the Santa Barbara Swim Club helped close out the 2011 season of Nite Moves on Wednesday with some top 10 finishes in the 1k swim at Leadbetter Beach.Maelyn Adornetto, 14, was the female winner (11th overall) in 13:56 and teammate Olivia Smith, 13, was right behind her in 14:02.Walker Bell, 14, finished third overall in 13 minutes, and Cuyler Gabriel, 14, and Ben Brewer, 13, were sixth and eighth, respectively.FULL RESULTSBell was the winningest swimmer of the NIte … [Read more...]

Dolphins steal the show at Reef & Run

Aquatic participants at the Reef & Run summer series got a special treat tonight — a school of dolphins swimming just inside the first buoy.“Looks like four of them,” said community dude Ernesto “Ironman” Paredes, Executive Director of Easy Lift Transportation, a local non-profit agency.
