Pacific pounds Gauchos to earn rare season sweep

STOCKTON  – Pacific used a 15-4 run to close the first half and turned it into a 27-10 run to rout the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team on Thursday night, 60-40.UCSB suffered its worst loss of the season and were swept by the Tigers in the regular season for the first time since the 1986-87 season. In saying goodbye to its pair of seniors – Kelsey Adrian and Emilie Johnson – the UCSB women's basketball team also said goodbye to Long Beach State's chances with a dominating defensive effort on Saturday.The Gauchos held Long Beach State to just 25.5% shooting in the Thunderdome, including a paltry 16.0% in the first half, in a 47-35 win. Casper Ware scored 16 points to lead first-place Long Beach State past UC Santa Barbara in a Big West game Wednesday night, 70-58.Orlando Johnson led the Gauchos with 20 points, closing to with three points of the program's all-time record.   He now has 1,694.The win clinched the league's regular season championship for the 49ers (20-7 overall, 13-0 in the Big West).  The loss ends the Gauchos' (15-9 overall, 9-4 in the Big West) three-game winning streak. Gauchos use tough defense, solid first half to ride to win

A torrid first half for UC Santa Barbara was more than enough for the Gauchos to win their third in a row, knocking off UC Riverside, 53-43 at the Student Recreation Center.UCSB jumped out to a 12-2 lead very early on and held UCR to just 15.4% shooting in the first 20 minutes to take a 24-12 lead into halftime.
