Santa Barbara High's girls basketball team was one win away from capturing a Channel League title this season, finishing with a 6-2 record that included wins over traditional powers Buena and Ventura. The most successful girls basketball season in Laguna Blanca's school history came to a close on Wednesday night, as the Owls were stopped 50-45 at Merovick Gym by third-seeded Hillcrest Christian in CIF's Division VI-AA quarterfinals. Head coach Ernie Quiroz's Owls finish with a 13-8 record in a season that included a Condor League championship and two playoff wins.
